Exciting news! RentPayment by MRI is launching MFA (Multi-factor Authentication) on April 15. With the website’s Multi-Factor Authentication feature, you can confirm your identity by receiving a one-time PIN via email and/or text. This approach reduces the need for frequent password updates, improves the website's security, complies with PCI (Payment Card Industry) standards, and simplifies your login process.
How does multi-factor authentication work?
After entering your username and password, you will be prompted to provide a second factor to verify your identity: a 6-digit code sent to your email, mobile number, or both. This additional step adds an essential layer of security.
Resident/Tenant User Experience
- Log in to https://portal.rentpayment.com/pay/login.html with your RentPayment Username and Password. After successful username and password authentication, the multifactor occurs.
- Select your preferred verification method. You can opt to receive the code via email or mobile. Your contact information auto-fills during authentication. The field is left blank if an email or mobile number is absent. Editing these methods from this section is restricted to maintain system security and the integrity of the authentication process.
- You must opt in if you choose a Mobile Phone as your OTP delivery method.
- Please enter your 6-digit one-time PIN, which will expire in 5 minutes. An option to resend a new code will appear every 60 seconds on your screen if you do not receive the code.
You will receive a one-time pin email from system@rentpayment.com. We recommend adding it to your email contacts so it doesn't get into spam or junk folders. The SMS code will come from our 888 number.
- After successfully authenticating the OTP, you will be logged in automatically.
- You can modify your OTP delivery method by navigating to the MENU section of your account and selecting MFA (Multi-factor Authentication) Settings. Please note that you cannot change your contact details from this section.
- If your contact information is outdated or you want to update your email or phone number, please go to your account's Profile section to make the necessary changes.
- After you enter your email or phone number, a one-time pin is generated to verify its validity and ensure it can receive the code. Updating your contact information directly impacts MFA functionality and requires re-authentication to complete the process.
What if you aren't receiving the one-time PIN?
Email Delivery:
- Please check your junk and spam folders. The OTP email will come from system@rentpayment.com.
- Ensure you are looking in the correct email inbox associated with your account.
- If you still can't find anything, your contact information on the profile may be outdated.
- Use the "Resend Code" option on your login screen.
Mobile:
- Please verify your network connectivity or restart your device.
- Use the "Resend Code" option on your login screen.
If you’re experiencing difficulties updating your contact details or obtaining the code:
Please submit a Customer Support ticket or chat with a live agent here. Alternatively, call us at 866.289.5977; our support is available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST, excluding major holidays.
Additionally, it’s crucial to contact your property management to verify that they have your updated contact information in their ledging software. Their system takes precedence over any changes made in RentPayment and may overwrite your updates.
I do not want to enroll in an MFA. Is that an option?
All residential and commercial users and property management who access rentpayment.com directly must implement this enhancement. This step reduces the requirement for password changes and safeguards your account against unauthorized access.
If your property management settings permit using our mobile app, you can enable biometrics after completing your MFA enrollment. You can log in without entering or receiving a code each time. However, enrollment in MFA remains mandatory.
